Pelvic Floor Toners – Effective Solutions For Incontinence

When compared to many other countries, the UK is genuinely well-served with a huge range of pelvic floor toners ranging from electronic devices, resistance-based toners and vaginal balls and barbells. What I find surprising is that even in the USA, a woman’s choice is much more restricted, with very few medically approved electronic devices available-so much so that many will buy them in from the UK and have them shipped over.

When Dr Arnold Kegel devised his pelvic muscle exercises for women with weakened pelvic floors mainly following childbirth, it was never intended that these be done on an empty vagina. Think about a weightlifter wanting to develop his biceps-imagine the results he would get is all he did was lift his arms up and down, compared to the results he would get doing the same movements when using weights. The situation with the vagina is similar. Dr Kegel realised that the best results could be achieved when the muscles are working against a resistant device-particularly one which could be adjusted as the pelvic muscle tone improved.

The Following Pelvic Toners Are the Main Types Sold In The UK

Electronic pelvic floor toners are extremely popular as they are a way for a woman to exercise her pelvic floor without really even trying. Traditional kegel exercises can be tiresome and many women will give up either because they are not seeing fast results, or because they are simply unsure that they are doing the exercises correctly. In the UK there are several leading makes available, such as the Athena Pelvic Muscle Trainer or the popular Kegel8 range. To use these devices, it is simply a case of choosing an appropriate program from a pre-set range, inserting the probe and switching the hand-held device on. You can then sit back whilst the machine does the work for you.

Resistance-based toners require more user input and the woman must be able to isolate and voluntarily contract her pelvic muscles, at least a little. These toners use springs to provide resistance and have graduated settings suitable for women with quite severe incontinence who will then gradually improve over time, adjusting the settings to the higher levels.

Vaginal balls are a more subtle way of exercising the pelvic fl

oor. By leaving them in place for longer periods of time, the vaginal muscles are exercised and the device can provide gentle stimulation.

Barbells are less popular for the mass-market, but are preferred by some women. The construction material determines who they are suitable for. The lighter weight plastic versions are more suitable for women with a severe pelvic floor weakness, whereas the stainless steel variety is suitable for women who already have a strong pelvic floor and simply wish to improve them to near-athlete level!
