Kegel Exercises – A Guide to Doing Pregnancy Exercises
Pregnancy should not be used as an excuse to stop exercising. Believe it or not, exercises are essential if you want to get through the pregnancy symptoms, if you want to maintain your active lifestyle, and of course if you want to deliver your baby without being too exhausted and experiencing too much pain. There are special exercises for women who are pregnant, and this article is going to list down some of the most effective and common pregnancy exercises being done by women of all ages and living different kinds of lifestyles:
Stretching regularly the necessary muscles needed to keep you going is important if you want to have a healthy yet active pregnancy. This type of exercise will make your muscles limber, flexible, and warm which are beneficial once you are about to give birth. Some very useful stretching pregnancy exercises include neck rotations, swimming, ankle rotations, leg shaking, and thigh shifting exercises. Swimming is especially beneficial for women in their third trimesters.
Kegel is one of the most common pregnancy exercises being advised to soon-to-be mothers because they strengthen the muscles of the uterus, the bowels, and the bladder which will help in the preparation for labor and birth. You will also discover that Kegel exercises are highly recommended to reduce the possibility of going into postpartum depression and will help in healing the perineal tissues which will get damaged during and after birth.
Lastly, there are the tailor exercises, which are designed to strengthen the thigh, hip, and pelvic muscles which will help relieve lower back pain, a pain very common and often felt during pregnancy. There are two types of tailor exercises:
Tailor press – you do this by sitting on the floor with your feet together and flat on the floor and your knees bent. You then grasp the ankles and slowly pull your feet gently towards your body.
Tailor sit – the tailor sit is one you sit on the floor with your knees bent and ankles crossed. You then lean slightly forward while keeping your back straight and relaxed. Do this exercise whenever you have the time during the day.
